Camera Woes

Woe is me. As much as I'm loving my new Nikon D40, I noticed a flaw yesterday. I didn't notice it in the first few days of pictures, but in every picture in the past few days there have been two spots in the frame that look like an oil based stain on fabric. I took it to Best Buy and they said there must be something on the interior lens. Thankfully, since it was within two weeks of my purchasing the camera they were more than happy to exchange it. Unfortunately, they didn't have any in stock and I'm leaving today for the beach! I'll have to stop at a Best Buy on the way to South Carolina and do the exchange there.
Has anyone else had this problem before? I bought the two year Best Buy warranty so I'm not too concerned but I'd hate to have to keep changing out cameras!

Paint boy, stated that"you need to change lens very quickly in a clean environment or you can get something in the interior on a mirror."
"If you didn't change the lens, someone at Best Buy has taken it off."

"Return the camera to Best Buy, get your money back and go to a Wolf or Ritz camera store( any dedicated camera store will do) and purchase your camera from someone that doesn't have pimples and wants the discount on video games!"
He was trying to be funny...

I've had a lot of problems with Best Buy cameras. Good luck, it took almost a year to get a replacement. I hope that is was a fluke on their part and won't happen to you. If it is too hard to get a new one, you might want to contact Nikon directly. Good Luck!!!

Yes, I have had the same problem, and I bought a new camera rather than return it because it was fairly old. It was frustrating.
Have fun at the beach.

I have a D40 too (got it at Christmas & have loved it). I have not had any issues but after downloading all our beach pics today (and after just reading your post), I could see 2 crescent shaped "oil stains" that are noticeable on pictures especially the ones taken at the beach. They are clear especially against the blue sky. I went through my past photos and they are all fine. I hope it's an easy fix b/c my camera may not be under warranty anymore. It's strange b/c I never took the lens off the entire trip.
