Richmond Dining Room Redo

My stepmom, Jettaka, has great taste. Always looks great no matter what she's wearing (even when it's all about the Talbot's (sorry, inside joke)). She and my Dad bought a home in Richmond several years back and the first time I saw it I loved it. Lots of yellow...and I like yellow. Problem is, Jett decided she wasn't lovin the yellow after a while. SOOOO, she redid the dining room and living room AND foyer, etc., etc. She described to me over the phone what the dining room was going to look like when it was finished and I must admit I was a bit skeptical. However, knowing her great sense of style I couldn't wait to see it.

Well lemmetellya. It is FABULOUS. I mean really amazing. The wallpaper has a bird pattern (and ya'll know I love me some birds) with browns, coppers and the slightest hint of of a robin's egg blue. Below the chair rail she painted the walls the most beautiful shade of chocolate brown I have ever seen. Not too light...not too dark. Just right. The curtains are a tailored blue, brown and ivory silk. She then painted the inside of a the antique corner cabinet the same blue that's in the wallpaper and curtains. Add a chandelier and sconces from Ballard Designs and voila! A beautiful overhaul of a tired room. Of course, she's still dealing with the "bachelor" dining room table and chairs that she inherited with the marriage and the rug that she inherited with the house, but Rome wasn't built in a day, folks. So, for your viewing pleasure...some before and after photos.

And some closer up details...

One more view, including the antique french buffet brought back from Europe by my grandparents in the 1960's. It is flanked by the sconces from Ballard Designs.

Now, here's what I would add to this room to make it "complete". Are ya listenin' Jett?

My choices for a rug would be:

From Shades of Light.

From Horchow.

And for a dining table:

From Baker.

From Arhaus.

From Pottery Barn.

And finally, for chairs:

From Ballard Designs.

From The Well Appointed House.

Thoughts, ideas?

Beautiful dining room. Your blog is seriously making me rethink my aversion to wallpaper. I love everything - it's beautiful.

So glad you are back from vacation. My sister discovered your blog by accident, and shared it with me. We have been reading you ever since. She said for me to check out "Sippycups are for Chardonnay". Well girl, you sound just like us. Especially my sister Pam. She has a little five year daughter and we call her "Baby Girl" too. Thanks for sharing your blog with all of us. You have such a sense of style and a great sense of humor. Keep it up. Maybe we will talk soon. Signed> Less is More, But More is Me. Patsy

Oh my...I love it! Loved it before, really love it after. She did a beautiful job. I am intriqued by the living room. The curtains look very interesting. Can we have more detail?

I love your idea of a round table in that space, especially with a number of wall pieces.

Can't wait to hear what she chooses.
