Good wife/Bad wife

I'm having a major dilemma. You see, Dr. Daddy is turning 50 this year and I made a really stupid promise.
Let me set the scene for you. Two weeks after we got engaged in 1999 we went to a Super Clubs resort in Jamaica. HE made the reservations and was soooooo excited. It turned out to be Hedonism III. Here's the decription from a travel website:
Tucked away on Jamaica's sultry North Coast, Hedonism III enters the millennium with everything that made Hedonism II the world's most notorious resort - and more! You'll find swim-up rooms. A Roman tub in every room. And a see-through slide that snakes through our disco. At Hedonism III, you'll find that famous uninhibited spirit where just about anything goes. For couples and singles 18 yrs. & over.

I think that's a pretty tame description myself. They fail to note the guest rooms' ahem, AMENITIES.

Yes, friends, that is a mirror on the ceiling. The see through waterslide is super fly as well...especially when people are sliding through it butt naked (which is not to say that I didn't do this as well after countless martinis). The see through slide also happens to traverse the nightclub, so people can sit and drink their libations while watching you slide naked into the pool. I especially love the rule at the main restaurant...clothing required. CLOTHING BEING USED AS A VERY LOOSE TERM. The restaurant, however, is the ONLY place on "campus" that has a clothing required rule.

Here's a taste of the entertainment options:

Night - Theme - Dress Code
Sunday - Pimper's Paradise - Pimp & Ho & Retro Wear
Monday - Pirate's Bootie - Sexy Pirates & Bootie Bottoms
Tuesday - Tease Me Tuesdays - Lingerie & Pajama (non optional)
Wednesday - Alter Ego Exposed - Bring out the Naughty Side Fetish
Thursday - Cesar's Revelry - 'Return to Rome' Toga/ Greek Gods & Godesses
Friday Jamaica Spice - 'Celebrate our Culture' Jamaican colors - black, yellow, green
Saturday Wet & Wild Day / All that Glitters Gala Night Glitter, metallic, sequin, shimmer

At the time we went, I was 23 and pretty conservative. Willing to go have a wild time with my fiance, none the less. Wanted him to be happy...thrilled he was taking me on vacation...had never been to the Caribbean. You get my drift.

At the time, it was my "most fun vacation ever". That's not saying a lot. I was a young adult. My many forays throughout Europe were done with my parents and three brothers in tow. Fun, but not the MOST FUN. Well, I have lived to regret those words. Dr. Daddy absolutely loved the trip. It was the greatest time of his life, yadda yadda yadda. Always wanted to go back. But honey, I would say, there are SOOOOOO many other places I want to go before I EVER go back there! A once and a lifetime trip, yes?

Ahhh, no. In a wild "I love my husband SOOOO much" moment a few months back, I promised him we could go back for his 50th birthday. So. Freaking. Dumb.

I don't know what it is...maybe I'm older, maybe it's having kids, maybe I'm just that much more conservative. I like my rack and have no problemo going topless on a beach where others are topless. I certainly wouldn't WALK AROUND topless, but laying out is fine. I don't feel the need to go to a resort where the nude beach is always full and I'm the only one hanging out on the prude beach. (the prude beach requires bottoms, you see...the nude beach is for completely nude people only)

So, Dr. Daddy asked me last night if I was excited about the trip (it's not till October). I couldn't lie. I told him I would be so happy to go to another Super Clubs resort but that I just wasn't thrilled to got back to Hedonism. It just kind of creeps me out. We definitely ran into some crack whores while we were there and that's just not the kind of crowd I want to run with. Now, he's mad. He thinks I misled him, am ungrateful, blah blah blah. I told him I would totally still go with him...I'm just not going to be ecstatic about prancing around in my jammies (unless, of course, it's my adorable Lilly tank and capri set). This bod just ain't all that hot no more and I don't feel so confident showing it off. Am I being a beeotch?

Maybe you can come up with an alternative that is still sexy, but not in such an in your face way. I bet he wants to go back there because he remembers how much fun you two had there. Now it might not be as much fun for you, so he wouldn't have as much fun either.

hmm. You can be a sex fiend at a fabulously tasteful hotel, yes? Your husband would still get what he wanted, right? Just reassure him that it's not the surroundings that will make the trip memorable, it's the activities that will occur within those 4 walls!

Greetings from Texas,

I think that you are a good wife not wanting to go to a place that is clothes optional! Why would you want to go and see other people going down a slide naked, all I can think of is that is too much bottom for me to ever want to see. I would rather be on a deserted island with my husband (now that is truly getting away)! Just tell him you will find some place isolated and truly have a happy 50th!

Hi! Just wanted to let you know I love reading your blog and I have to agree with you on this one! Maybe you could plan to go somewhere fabulous with the kids and then tell him "But they really wanted to celebrate with you!' I know it's traveling with the kids but it might at least get you out of hanging out with the crack ho's! LOL! Good luck!

Um, I think HE is being unreasonable. It's one thing for a 40-ish man to go with his hot young 23 y.o. fiancee'. It's another thing entirely for a 50 y.o. father to go.

No. You are not being a beeotch. Dear Dr. Daddy is being a manipulative husband. He's not mad - he's sulky and pouty, right? If he want's "raunch" or something thereof - I'm sure you'd be willing to accomodate him AT HOME, and not travel to far off places to engage in that stuff, right? Maybe a compromise to very nice hotel with a very private beach - no "community" nudity - if you know what a mean - would be the ticket. Good luck. meo

Wow! Wow! And Wow! I'm with you. Maybe back in the day we could force a good time, being newly engaged and all. But, hey, it's different times now, and that is just way too loose for a wife and mom. The things we do for love!!

Oh, shit! That's pretty funny. I would be TOTALLY dreading the trip and I think I would have to work really hard to change his mind! I would do a lot for my hubby, but that's pushing it! If it was bad back then, think how times has changed!

One of my best friends is married to a neurosurgeon and I'm in medical sales so I happen to work with him, too...She and I talk about how much of a "nerd" he is because he spent so many years in school and missed out on the true college years. They went to the Carribean and he asked the cab driver if he could "smoke a doobie". She's in her 30's and he's 15 years older than her so I think his social functioning stalled many many many years ago Who calls it that anymore? He calls his patients "mofo's" and is constantly asking me if something is "cool". I think this "resort" is something he'd really be into...I think she'd KILL me if I suggested it. :)

Outing myself as a reader too. :) I would be dreading it as well...sounds fun at 23 I think...but in my 30s after kids? Not so much. But my husband would call me a prude, so...

You are not being a biotch...I would never consider going back there. That was a once in a lifetime! Find somewhere else fabulous with skinny dipping and nude beaches and hopefully Dr. Daddy will come around. Not sure he has a choice with this one!

ah. That would be my worst nightmare! That place scares me!

LOVE THIS STORY! -- seeing you at the beach during the summer and picturing you going down a slide topless...AHH HAHA!

PS: where oh where did I go on the blogroll? :( -- I was so flattered.

Nope not at all...I am completely cracking up that you are going for the second time! I've heard about it over the years and even watched a show mini documentary on VH1 about it. It definitely does not leave much to the imagination there.

Holy cow! That just totally changed my image of you two. "Way to go," when you are 23; "run the other way," at 30 with 2 babies. I am pretty sure that Paintboy and I are not going to add that place to our see before we die list.

I don't know what to say...except I would be dreading that trip too! Can't your bribe the hospital to make sure that he in on call that weekend?

You are not a beeotch! You were in a different place without children when you said you'd go back at 50. It's difficult to get excited about hanging out with crack ho's. Can you find some "negative ratings" of the place online to show it is has gone downhill and is too skanky now?

You know, sexy fun doesn't have to be slutty fun. What about adding some things on wherever you decide to go - couples massage (and by couples - I mean the two of you - not multiple couples!)skinnydipping somewhere secluded instead of a naked waterslide, etc.

Wow, I have to say I agree with Lauren and jenontheedge. It is totally different going now . . . and for some reason, I feel, husbands don't understand that taste, likes, etc. can change from when you were younger. . . I know whatever happens, you will have a great time celebrating with hubby.

You know I love Dr. Daddy but there is no amount of money you could pay me to go to a place like that.

I love your blog, it was the first one I ever read and have been addicted ever since!

You are not being unreasonable AT ALL. My husband and I have been to a Superclubs resort before. We went to a Grand Lido one. Super nice AND when we went, you could get a day pass over to Hedonism. Now, you are braver than me, (I turned it down) but if Dr. Daddy REALLY wanted to go for the glass bottom slide you can go for a short time, and still have the luxury at your resort. Just an idea.
