Lamest. Mom. EVER.

So today it snowed. Lots. Like four inches. Whatever, people. That's a lot for US. Despite the fact that we take the kids out west to ski every year and they usually see about a thousand inches of snow, they were completely fascinated with the winter wonderland that had taken over our little valley.
Of course, they wanted to sled! What kid wouldn't? I can vividly remember neighborhood parents dragging my friends and I up our street on sleds and watching us gleefully plunge to the bottom. More than once this Norman Rockwellian experience ended with a bloodied nose for me. I couldn't figure out how to stop the sled and other kids' boots just kept getting in the way of my face.
Anyhoo. Dr. Daddy was a mensch (that's my inner Gloria coming out again) and took the kids to the pool at the Y. I decided to head out to Wal-Mart for some last minute things and...a sled. That's right. We don't have a sled. How did we exist six years with kids and not buy a sled?
So I'm trudging through Wal-Mart with my milk and eggs and I finally give up looking and ask a guy who works there if they have any sleds. "Sleds? Nuh-uh. We ain't had sleds since a couple weeks." Nice. Good that you're missing school tomorrow due to snow 'cause you CLEARLY don't need that grammar lesson.
At any rate, three stores, an hour of negotiating my way through the crappy roads and two sleds later I returned home to one child who refused to go outside and one who was ecstatic.
I'm still wondering how in the world we didn't have a sled in the first place?

so funny! Since Jack has never seen snow until this year he still calls his sled, his "boogie board"- which is really all he knows a sled to be! ha- i am so much more a beach person anyways it makes me smile to think that boogie boarding is just a month (or three) away!

I think it is hilarious that you wrote, "That's a lot four US" and made fun of the Walmart employee for his grammar in the same post. Hope they ended up having fun sledding!

Sippycups -
I remember you posting a while back that you tiled your bathroom. I'm considering a tiling project and wondered if you would do a post about your experience - any tips for a first time tiler?? Love your blog!!!

are we at all surprised that a roanoke wal*mart would be out of stock of something? my dad went to by a new fireplace cover a few weeks ago and they said they had been sold out since october. clearly, restocking is not big on their to-do list...

We don't have a sled either. Don't tell! My oldest is only three though, so I sort of have an excuse. ;) We're in Virginia, and we got a fair amount of snow here! Wishing I had bought a sled (and some kids' snow boots!!!)
