Sippycups Snippets

Ah, the joys of Christmas. Dr. Daddy was none too thrilled when I announced this year that we would be purchasing real trees for the living room and sun room. I've had it with my fake ones. They're starting to look a little tired and I just miss that tree smell.
Whilst setting up the trees on Sunday we discovered that the living room tree was a bit crooked. The trunk is a little crooked to start with but the tree itself just wasn't quite right. Then, in his infinite wisdom, Dr. Daddy decides to put the stand on top of a plastic rubbermaid tub lid to prevent water from spilling onto and ruining the hardwood floor. Overheard:

me: Um, I'm not sure that's such a good idea. The tree is already kind of crooked and that top isn't big enough. I don't think it will be very stable.

Dr. D: Who here has an engineering degree from MIT? It will be fine.

me: hmmmph. We'll see about that.

So I spent all yesterday morning decorating my fantastical tree. Even managed to turn it ever so slightly so it wouldn't look crooked.

This morning, Dr. Daddy goes downstairs, let's the dog out and I hear a huge crash.
No. It. Cannot. Be. I ran down the stairs to find my beautiful tree on the floor. Along with several of my beloved Waterford glass ornaments AND my Lladro bell ornament. In hundreds of little pieces.

Awesome.

Upon re-entering the house with the dog I had this to say to the Dr...

"Perhaps a little less time spent delivering mice covered pizza to the Wellesley girls and a little more time in weights and measures class would have served you well...Mr. ENGINEER."

What a way to start the morning.

I love the real tree smell too...but I can't handle the mess...So I buy fake and burn Christmas Tree Scented Soy candles...you wouldn't even be able to tell the difference!

Bwahahaha, although I am also sad for your fallen ornaments.

And three cheers for real Christmas trees. Busoms and hair color are allowed to be fake, but Christmas trees simply cannot be.

It's not officially Christmas in our house if the tree doesn't fall at least once! Picture a 15 foot tree crashing down and breaking several Christopher Radkos!!!

And unfortunately ... even the ever so true comments we say that sting them (and prove to them we think thru things!) does not fix the broken ornaments or the beautiful (now horizontal) tree!!

So sorry ... that bites!

Couldn't help but laugh at your response to Dr. Daddy. So sorry about the tree - and the Waterford ornaments! Looks like he has some replacements to find!

That is awful! I worry about my 3 year old playing with ornaments and decorations, but I would never guess Dr. Daddy would've toppled the tree!!!

That sucks!!!! My 3 year old (then a 2 year old) pulled the Christmas tree onto himself last year and so many of our ornaments were broken. It was not a happy day, so this year we have the tree tied to the wal!

Isn't that what Christmas is all about? Just Kidding! We now have a permanent eye screw in our hardwoods to tie down our tree every year. Something to do with a first Christmas together, ALOT of cussing a massive 12 foot tree and me crying. Who knew that a 10 cent screw would save a marriage?

Hmmm..that last line does not sound quite right!

The battles over the tree are priceless! I am actually considering going with the fake prelit trees from now on. I can't deal with rigging up the lights anymore! However, I feel a bit guilty doing that to my daughter who loves to go pick out our tree!
